The faces behind The Dance World Directory

We are Mel, Adele & Anne-Marie, the founders of The Dance World Directory.

Mel Tweddle is the co-founder of The Dance World Directory and has spent more than 20 years working within the dance and performing arts industry.

After training professionally at Tring Park School for the Performing Arts, Mel went on to enjoy a 10-year career as a professional dancer, performing internationally in productions across the UK, Europe and Asia. Following her performing career, she moved into dance education and is now the Principal and Director of Danceforce Performing Arts Academy in East Yorkshire.

Alongside running her dance school, Mel is the founder of Dance Psychology UK and is currently completing a Master’s degree in Psychology, with a particular interest in dancer wellbeing, confidence, identity and the psychological experiences of those working within the dance industry. Mel also organises and runs Dance Festivals within the area.

Having experienced the dance world as a student, performer, teacher, parent and business owner, Mel understands both the incredible opportunities the industry offers and how difficult it can be to navigate. The Dance World Directory was created from a desire to make that world feel more connected and accessible — bringing together training, opportunities, events, businesses and resources in one dedicated space for the dance community.

Anne-Marie Crook is the co-founder of The Dance World Directory and brings over 15 years of experience in dance education alongside an extensive professional performing career.

After training professionally at Stella Mann College, Anne-Marie went on to dance around the world, performing professionally onboard cruise ships. Following her performing career, she moved into dance education, where she has spent the last 15 years teaching and supporting the development of young dancers.

Anne-Marie holds a PGCE and has worked within higher education, including developing and writing a Dance degree programme for the University of Hull. She is currently Deputy Principal of a dance school in the East Riding of Yorkshire, where she focuses on developing dancers’ technique, artistry and performance.

Alongside her teaching, Anne-Marie organises and runs dance festivals across the East Riding of Yorkshire, giving her a broad understanding of the industry from both an educational and events perspective.

With experience spanning professional performance, teaching, higher education, dance school leadership and events, Anne-Marie brings a wealth of knowledge to The Dance World Directory and shares its vision of creating a more connected, accessible and supportive dance community.
